Popping & picking acne- let’s discuss
We know that picking and popping our acne is bad, we know we shouldn't do it, but why?
As tempting as it can be, it’s not JUST spreading the bacteria to a neighbouring follicle that is the issue. When we pick a spot, it rips and creates tears around the surrounding skin. We are no longer clearing a spot, we are dealing with a wound that requires the wound healing process.
Collagen is sent quickly and sloppily to repair the wound. The fibre composition of this collagen is usually of inferior quality vs normal collagen, leaving possibly raised skin and scarring.
We also need to consider how all our cells and systems collaborate during the wound healing process, instead of solely concentrating on the rest of the skin thriving and living its best life. Hindering your healing and progress. You are especially at risk if your barrier is impaired, as a loss of structural integrity will mark and scar easily!
Thankfully, we have microneedling. Which helps rearrange collagen fibres to lie smoothly with the skin's surface. Whilst breaking down scar tissue and promoting healthier skin.
