Let’s talk emulsifiers
Emulsifiers are ingredients that bind oil and water together in a product to stabilise it. Our acid mantle (skin barrier) is made up of oil and water.
When we use products with conventional emulsifiers, they bind onto the oil and water of the acid mantle. The emulsifier does not lose its properties just because it's on the skin and not in the bottle!
Once the emulsifier has penetrated into the skin, the protective lipids (oil) will be transported out when the skin comes in contact with water. This is called the 'wash-out' effect.
Emulsifiers cause a modification of the top layer of skin- the stratum corneum, and consequently the skin barrier defence systems. dermaviduals formulates their product line with physiological ingredients such as ceramides and phosphatidylcholine which are recognised by the skin.
This, in turn, prevents our skin care products from separating and will NOT cause a damaging 'wash-out' effect of the skin's own oil secretions.
