Four skin tips you need to know

  1. You don’t need to cleanse in the mornings.
Just use water! Over cleansing and chasing ‘clean’ skin is the route of many skin barrier issues.

2.. Extracting sebaceous filaments can damage and stretch the pore, making the pore opening appear bigger.
A sebaceous filament is a thin structure that lines the inside of the pore and helps sebum travel to the skin’s surface. It has no plug, therefore it is not the same as a blackhead, and should be left alone. (Sorry Hydrofacial addicts!)

    3. Essential oils in skincare can be photo sensitising and cause pigmentation.
Essential oils are often in products marketed as ‘natural’ however they can be extremely reactive to sunlight, and create an inflammatory response. Resulting in the tricky skin condition pigmentation later on down the line.

    4. You will age quicker through peeling and heavily exfoliating the epidermis away.
As we age, the dermis (which is the deeper layer of our skin and home to the collagen building fibroblast cells), naturally thins by 1% each year, starting age 25. To maintain dermal protection, the epidermal skin cells slow down movement and become thicker (the layer above the dermis).

However, chemical peels, scrubs, microdermabrasion, and dermaplaning remove this protective barrier, as well as the epidermis. Leaving the dermis to allocate some of its already diminishing resources to repair the damage = AGEING!
